Putting The Camera In Your Hands...
Posted December 20th, 2008 by DJRhettMCDJRHETTMC-
My goal for 2009 is to complete the trifecta of production excellence in a rental award. To go with our award winning sound package and light package rental kits. Hey, they're kinda old and beat up looking, but RELIABLE and CHEAP! Lumens are lumens, clean audio waveforms from a decent mixer are half your picture. Sure I think we should expand the light kit to include a flourescent or LED key, fill and hairlight too! Next year though? Bear with me... LETS WRITE A GRANT FOR A RED ONE CAMERA!
My challenge is to find us a grant and/or grantwriter to help us purchase a REVOLUTIONARY quality camera to help all of Nebraska Indpendent Films. Something similar to a RED ONE or their upcoming Scarlett or similar DSLR's that take HD footage to SD card or SSD drive...

Meeting Notes: December 9 2008- New Officers
Posted December 11th, 2008 by DJRhettMCHad a good lively discussion at the December meeting of NIFP. Eric Dwight and Chad Bring talked about their upcoming feature "PINE ACRES" and we all brainstormed creative fundraising efforts in a dismal economy. Dentists were mentioned as potential investors, makes sense right?
NEWS: NIFP will be switching to a more event driven model. We will only be meeting if a member volunteers to 'host' a meeting of their choice of topic. NIFP will remain a social, laid back networking group, with a renewed focus on helping members find the resources, knowledge and HELP to make their projects a reality. We are open to any and all ideas for meetings and meeting locations. We also like to have a beer or two in the process. But as a 501(c)3 nonprofit, Nebraska Indpendent Film Projects biggest asset is still our fiscal sponsorship program. With our rental light sound and camera kits running a close second.

Once in a Lew Moon: Featured on Central Nebraska's NTV television
Posted December 1st, 2008 by DJRhettMCNTV's Good Life was happy to welcome back celebrated screenwriter Lew Hunter. Lew talked to us about writing screenplays and how he got started in the business.
I'm directing the "Lew Hunter life story" from here to Hollywood, with the biggest names in the acting/writing/producing/directing/lawyer's field in the world. Lew Hunter is a man who helps everyone and loves all who are willing to love back. This special tv interview on ABC/NTV with Lew Hunter, (director-Lonnie Senstock), asst./Audio Chad Holle, will give you insight on Lew's first work with Sam Elliot & Cybil Shephard. Special thanks to Jamie, Pamela Hunter, Rachael, Chad, and our two beautiful co-hosts Peggy Malzacher and Leslie Means. Due to time constraints of a live show, there wasn't enough to mention our commentator Chris Goforth on the film. Thanks for all who tuned in around the midwest and for Denise who posted this.

The Independent Critic reviews Barstool Cowboy
Posted November 26th, 2008 by DJRhettMChttp://www.theindependentcritic.com/barstool_cowboy
There are independent films.
Then, there are INDEPENDENT films.
"Barstool Cowboy" is an INDEPENDENT film.
Filmed on an estimated $10,000 budget, "Barstool Cowboy" is the simple story of Mick (newcomer Tim Woodward), a barroom cowboy devastated by a recent breakup and committed to spending the next three months getting drunk at what amounts to the local honkytonk.
Tim's efforts to wallow in self pity are interrupted by Arcy (Rachel Lien, "For Love of Amy"), a 19-year-old art student who arouses the curiosity of the bar patrons as she sits outside the bar drawing away.
"Barstool Cowboy," on a certain level, feels like a honkytonk version of "The Girl in the Cafe," a marvelous little film about two seemingly polar opposites who find in each other a renewed energy and motivation for life and self-fulfillment.

Free Open Source NLE and VJ performance! http://lives.sourceforge.net/
Posted November 19th, 2008 by DJRhettMCWhat is LiVES ?
LiVES began in 2002 as the Linux Video Editing System. Since it now runs on more operating systems: LiVES is a Video Editing System. It is designed to be simple to use, yet powerful. It is small in size, yet it has many advanced features.
LiVES is a Free, Open Source video editor *and* a VJ tool.
LiVES mixes realtime video performance and non-linear editing in one application. It will let you start editing and making video right away, without having to worry about formats, frame sizes, or framerates. It is a very flexible tool which can be used by both VJ's and video editors - mix and switch clips from the keyboard, trim and edit your clips, and bring them together using the multitrack timeline. You can even record your performance in real time, and then edit it further or render it straight away as a new clip !
Dan Mirvish (Omaha the Movie) helped create imaginary Palin/Africa leaker Martin Eisenstadt?
Posted November 13th, 2008 by DJRhettMCA Senior Fellow at the Institute of Nonexistence
Axel Koester for The New York Times
Dan Mirvish, who with Eitan Gorlin created an elaborate Internet hoax complete with a fake policy institute and a phony adviser to Senator John McCain.
It was among the juicier post-election recriminations: Fox News Channel quoted an unnamed McCain campaign figure as saying that Sarah Palin did not know that Africa was a continent.
Who would say such a thing? On Monday the answer popped up on a blog and popped out of the mouth of David Shuster, an MSNBC anchor. “Turns out it was Martin Eisenstadt, a McCain policy adviser, who has come forward today to identify himself as the source of the leaks,” Mr. Shuster said.
Trouble is, Martin Eisenstadt doesn’t exist. His blog does, but it’s a put-on. The think tank where he is a senior fellow — the Harding Institute for Freedom and Democracy — is just a Web site. The TV clips of him on YouTube are fakes.
November NIFP meeting at the Ross...
Posted November 12th, 2008 by JBishopHello to all!
My Presidency is coming to a close. It's been great to work with and meet some amazing people. I've had the opportunity to be a part of some pretty great things and I am honored to have been involved. We've had ups and downs and it definately hasn't been dull! And that brings me to this months meeting.
This month we will be taking nominations for office in the NIFP. If your a longstanding member of the NIFP and think you have what it takes to run the group, make sure to come down and make your intentions known!
We will also have MON 08 wrapup. Hear the ins and outs of the fest, what went wrong, what went great, and what we may do in the future. And if you missed the MON 08, you will get a chance to see the winners.
So come down to the Ross tonight at 6pm and help form the future and beyond.

Attention Filmmakers: Who Wants To Go To Sundance?
Posted November 12th, 2008 by DJRhettMCProject: Direct, YouTube's annual short film competition, is back to offer another talented filmmaker a chance to be discovered!
This year they partnered with AOL Moviefone and The Sundance Film Festival to bring you this challenge: direct an original short film incorporating three specific props. One must be a red phone and the other two must be chosen from a list of 25 props that have played stand-out roles in some of the most memorable films to emerge from the Sundance Film Festival over the past 25 years. To choose your props, visit www.youtube.com/projectdirect.
Submissions open on November 16 and close at 9PM PST on December 14. A panel of Sundance Film Festival executives will review your film and whittle the competition down to 10 semi-finalists. Then, on December 27, the YouTube community will start voting for the winning film.

http://vimeo.com/pearljamchannel
With the 2008 election hot on our tails, we thought it would be the perfect time to dig into our archives and "take a look back to take a look forward." In 2004, Pearl Jam was one of seventeen musicians who took part in the Vote for Change tour - caravanning through battle ground states to Get Out The Vote. An indie film crew made up of Jeff Ament's filmmaker/ skater friends (see sixstair.com) documented the experience. They captured portions of each of concerts, the crowds, on-the-street interviews, and behind-the-scenes footage leading up to Election Day 2004 - all in 8mm film...

STOP VOTER FRAUD WITH YOUR CAMCORDER!
Posted October 31st, 2008 by DJRhettMCFounded two years ago by Ian Inaba of Guerrilla News Network, John Ennis of Shoot First, Inc., and James Rucker of ColorOfChange.org, Video the Vote seeks to ensure "timely, complete, and accurate reporting of voter suppression and election irregularities by organizing citizen journalists to document elections and then using their footage to raise awareness about the ongoing challenges facing American voters." More:
Video the Vote operates through a simple three-step process.
1. Volunteers sign up online, giving us their email address, cell phone number, and video proficiency.
2. On election day, voters call in to national hotlines to report problems at the polls, Video the Vote dispatches our volunteers to get the story. We also obtain footage from roving videographers who are documenting the election process in their communities.
3. Volunteers then upload their footage to our web site where it is available for immediate viewing by the media and the public.
