UNL Student appreciation night at the Ross- $1 admission
In 2005, for the first time in the nearly 33 year history of the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center ?formerly the Mary Riepma Ross Film Theater and before that it was called the Sheldon Film Theater?more student tickets were sold than regular adult tickets.
?While we are exceedingly happy about that situation, we want to encourage even more students to see the fine films offered at the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center ,? said Danny Ladely, Director of the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center .
Consequently, the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center and the University Program Council implemented a monthly student appreciation night at MRRMAC beginning during the Spring 2006 Semester that proved very popular with the students. So, we?re doing it again!
On Thursday, September 21, University of Nebraska-Lincoln students will be admitted to any screening of the films showing that night for just one dollar. Usually, student admission is $6.00.
In addition, UNL students will be able to purchase medium sized popcorn or a 20 oz bottle of soda for one dollar each. Normally, medium sized popcorn and a 20 oz bottle of soda cost $2.50 and $2.00 each, respectively. UNL student IDs will be required for these purchases.
Showing on Thursday, September 21 are QUINCEA?ERA, a captivating tale of a Latino teenager facing womanhood that won both the Dramatic Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival; SKETCHES OF FRANK GEHRY, a documentary about the noted architect in which Oscar winning director Sydney Pollack takes a sharp sideways turn; and THE INTERNATIONAL EXPERIMENTAL CINEMA EXPOSITION TRAVELING SHOWCASE, with guest curator Christopher May presenting celluloid works in their true format, from the latest contemporary works to archival films from the rich history of experimental cinema from around the globe.
Show times and more information are available at www.TheRoss.org, by consulting your newspaper, or by calling the MRRMAC film information line at 402.472.5353.
Student appreciation nights at MRRMAC will continue throughout the fall and spring semesters, scheduled for the current semester on Thursday, October 26 and Thursday, November 16. Further details are available on MRRMAC?s web site.
